We booked with Glory cruises. Admittingly the flashy images in theBrilliant Cruises  were the reason we booked with Glory and the boat was new but didnt seem as flashy as the brochures. The cabin was loverly, the bed was good but not as soft as my own back home but still comfortable, and everything worked in the bathroom ( we did have to shove a pillow into the bathroom port hole as there was no curtain and my partner was a bit "worried" that someone with a telescopic lens might get a birds eye view HA HA ) we did have to remind the guide that we had booked a suite not a delux cabin but thats ok he fixed it.The boats in the bay must be painted white ( govt regulations) which means it probably prematurely ages, so twice a year it goes off to be painted and maintained as Glory do the best to maintain the quality of the boat.
GLORY CRUISES was great. The staff on this boat were fantastic. The food was great and always lots of it,Halong Bay was beautiful, we toured in April so a little bit foggy for distance photos but all other photos we took turned out great. Weather was perfect !Kayaking, touring caves, pearl village, fishing village, it was all good fun. I suggest the the 3 day tour as with the travel to Halong Bay and the travel back in 2 days gives you so little time and its probably not worth it,
Glory cruise really looked after us. On the 2nd day most of the other passengers left and we were left with one other group a family of 4, the crew continued to give us a rich experience. We were even invited to a kitchen party with the crew as the boat was almost empty. That was fun - with a hot pot and vodka. I imagine this is not the norm, it was just that their were so few people on the boat and the managing directer was visiting the boat to check in his staff so it was a celebration of sorts !! but it does show the value of the crew that they would invite a couple of passengers to their private party.
Some reviews reflect some disappointing experiences which is sad but I wonder what they are looking for. Vietnam is a beautiful place, the people are friendly, the food is dirt cheap. Sure the cruises are probably one of the most expensive attractions but they are well with it. If you want flashy and perfect with never a hiccup, go to the states but take your wallet with you. Vietnam will occasionally get it mixed up but they do their best, its still a young country for tourism. I suggest you take it on the chin, if you miss out on a bottle of water on your bus trip or visit under par toilets. Vietnam will always give you the best experience if you consider it to be an adventure which we did!
Happy cruising !

Definately a must see. We booked through Brilliant Halong Cruise on Glory cruises with the help of our hotel and flashy brochures. We did a 2 day 1 night cruise which i thought was sufficient for us.
Our boat was comfortable, clean and staff very helpful. We did kayaking and visiting caves. Free time to do a cookery class or just chill on board. Plenty of food and i thought the quality was good.
I cant really add more than what diane c said from oz.
Weather in early nov was fantastic, no fog.
Treat it like an adventure, and if you are not up for an adventure and the small hiccups that go with it you are better off going somewhere else!

Overall i would rate this trip up there with whitsundays in oz and milford sound in nz, hence i thought 2 days and 1 night was sufficient as we had seen similar in the above countries.
