When i was planning our trip to Halong Bay, we are bombarded with so many different cruises. I am glad that we had leave our planning to Hanoi Guesthouse, They had booked Halong Phoenix cruiser for us. What impress us the most is the tour guide: Viet. He is an amazing tour guide. His Enthusiasm and his love for his country has really touched us. Unlike other tour guide I had came across, he really makes an effort to give us as much information about his country without sounding boring. I love the statement he made about Halong bay: It may be late that things are being done to preserve it. But it is still not too late yet. Things that really impress is the effort they made for us. Knowing that we are in our honeymoon, they actually prepare us a cake to celebrate our special day. We really appreciate the things that they had done for us. Thank You!

The Halong Bay overnight tour was part of a 5 day tour we booked with South Pacific Travel. Halong Bay was incredible - over 2000 islands popping out of the water everywhere. There were loads of tour boats but at night after sunset it was peaceful and we felt as though we were the only one out there. The Phoenix Cruiser (one of the three) was amazing. There were 10 rooms, ours was a twin room and had flat screen tv, dvd player, fridge and amazing shower!!! The meals provided were plentiful and delicious. I think lunch was 5 courses and dinner 7 courses! Drinks were additional but only about $1-2US each. We were very impressed with our guides and the service. They had really thought of everything. The tour included a walk up to the 'Amazing Cave' which was massive and truely amazing!! We also went kayaking for a couple of hours - hard work but lots of fun. With South Pacific, as part of our 5 day tour, we also travelled to Sapa which was the highlight of our trip to Vietnam. Our tour was called the Northern Star tour - perfect length of time and included a bit of everything. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend South Pacific Travel they were very reliable and had everything covered - we felt in good hands. Very friendly guides who spoke good english. They organised a sweet Welcome dinner just for us and made us feel special every step of the way. I will definately book South Pacific again for future tours.

Just got back from a three day two night cruise on the Phoenix Cruiser travelling through Ha Long Bay. It was a wonderful experience. We used South Pacific Travel based on the recommendation of a friend, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company and this Ha Long Bay Junk to other friends. Lovely room on board (try and get a cabin forward (the low numbers, 202, 203, 302, 302) as they are quieter. The service was excellent and the food quite passable. Spent one night on board the Junk and one night on Cat Ba Island (Sunrise resort - highly recommended). This company does charge more than others but you won't regret it.

Took a 1 night cruise on the Phoenix II and it was by far one of the top highlights of our Vietnam Stay. Only 20 passengers max on Phoenix II. Meals included several dishes with plenty to go around. It was family style so those who are vegetarian or prefer certain foods can pick and choose. Presentation was awsome as well. After sunset we were served a glass of wine and plate of fruit on the top deck to enjoy as a group. Activities included kayaking at sunset, a hike through a large cavern with stalagmites & tites (very crowded), soaking in the sun on the top deck & an option to swim or climb one of the islands to get a great view (we did both). The boat itself was wonderful, we especially loved that the doors to all rooms were accessed via an outside deck - it was nice to open our door and walk right into the views. Rooms attractive with so much detail work & comfortable. Plenty of seating & lounge chairs on upper deck. The only cons were minor: the hot water would run out fairly quick (5min or less), the bar prices were VERY high for the area (comprable to prices in the states so bring your own water), the detail work in some places was broken or missing (mostly noticable only when off the boat) & the top deck floor paint was peeling, along with other very minor cosmetic issues. Our guide was enthusiastic and we were well treated. Having a small boat gave opportunities for everyone to get to know eachother and also for everyone to find thier own private space. As someone said in a previous review, during your transfer to Halong they make a rest stop (just like the other cruise companies) at a pottery shop both ways. I think that 2 nights would be a bit much & a day cruise too short. The 1 night provided us enough time to soak it all in, enjoy the company, food and activities.

he trip arranged by South Pacific Travel in Hanoi on the Deluxe Phoenix Cruiser was wonderful. Everything went smoothly with excellent transportation to and from Hanoi. The Cruiser was modern with clean rooms and private bathrooms with nice hot water. Despite the heat, the air conditioner in our room worked perfectly. Food on board was also excellent (seafood). After our afternoon outing (visiting a cave, kayaking) we were treated to wine and fresh fruit prior to having a wonderful sea food dinner. The small size of the group (ca. 12 people) was also a plus, especially as some of us participated in Karaoke after dinner without being embarrassed.
